Now in our fourth season, the Amsterdam Gay Men’s Chorus (AMSGMC) is bigger and better than ever. But we want to achieve even more, so we always welcome new members from across Amsterdam and the surrounding area. We’re a very international chorus, our members from around the world who’ve made Holland their new home building new friendships with our Dutch singers and dancers. Like our chorus, our repertoire is very diverse too. We sing pop, jazz, traditional melodies, hits from the musicals and even a few Dutch classics. And our dances are just as diverse. Interested? Come down to a rehearsal, have some fun singing or dancing, and help us achieve our goals. If singing or dancing isn’t your thing though, we can use your support in other ways. Join us as a volunteer and help out at rehearsals or concerts, or consider becoming an AMSGMC Friend or Sponsor.
The AMSGMC sprang to life in 2015, but the origin of the gay men’s chorus actually dates back to 1978. The first gay men’s chorus was set up by Jon Reed Sims in the Castro district of San Francisco. Its mission? To create change through music. Because music heals, enlightens and fosters unity. That vision of a world inspired and united by the music still holds true today and the global gay men’s chorus collective now boasts over 250 choruses worldwide. As part of this loving family, AMSGMC’s mission is to perform for the acceptance of the gay community in all its diversity – a diversity that’s reflected in the many talented singers and dancers of our chorus.
