Membership Fees and Attendance Policy

1. Purpose

This Membership Fees and Attendance Policy sets out the membership fees, attendance arrangements and financial obligations applicable to participants of the Amsterdam Gay Men’s Chorus.

This Policy should be read together with the General Terms and Conditions.

2. Membership Fees

​

The Board determines the membership fee for each season.

For the 2026–2027 season, the annual membership fee is: €400.00 per participant

The Board may revise the membership fee for future seasons. Participants will be informed before the start of the new season.

The Fee for Nexus singers on top of their chorus membership fee is €80 per season

 

3. Payment Options

​

Participants may choose one of the following payment methods:

​

Payment in two Instalments

• €200.00 due before 15 September 2026

• €200.00 due before 15 February 2027

Alternative payment arrangements may be agreed by the Board in exceptional circumstances.

Pay what you want (Voluntary Contribution)

On top of the membership fees, you are welcomed to contribute to the chorus by donation, this will help fund others in need of financial support. More on this in article 10.

4. Payment Details

Payments must be made by bank transfer to:

When making payment, participants should include:

• their full name; and

• the payment period (e.g. September–January or February–June).​

5. Participants Joining During the Season

​

Participants joining after the start of the season will pay a prorated membership fee.

The Board will determine the amount based on the remaining part of the season.

6. Late Payments

​

Membership fees must be paid by the applicable due date.

If payment is not received:

1. A first payment reminder will be sent.

2. If payment is still outstanding, a second and final reminder will be sent.

3. If payment remains outstanding after the second reminder, the Board may issue a formal notice of default.

Where permitted by applicable law, an administration fee of €40.00 may be charged.

7. Non-Payment

​

If membership fees remain unpaid after the formal notice of default, the Board may:

• suspend participation in rehearsals, performances and other chorus activities;

• restrict participation in concerts or events;

• agree on a payment arrangement; or

• terminate membership in accordance with the General Terms and Conditions.

Before taking such action, the Board will consider any exceptional personal circumstances brought to its attention.

 

8. Additional Participant Contributions

 

Certain activities may require an additional financial contribution. 

These may include:

• concerts;

• tours;

• workshops;

• costumes;

• social events;

• accommodation;

• transport; or

• other activities approved by the Board.

Participants will always be informed of any additional costs before they become payable.

 

9. Refunds

Membership fees are generally non-refundable.

Refunds may only be granted:

• where required by the General Terms and Conditions;

• where required by law; or

• in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the Board.

10. Financial Hardship

​

The Amsterdam Gay Men’s Chorus aims to ensure that financial circumstances do not unnecessarily prevent participation.

Participants experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to contact the Treasurer or another Board member in confidence to discuss possible payment arrangements.

Each request will be considered individually and treated confidentially.

11. Rehearsal Attendance and Performance Eligibility

​

The Amsterdam Gay Men’s Chorus is committed to delivering high-quality performances. This depends on every participant being well prepared and familiar with their musical, artistic and performance responsibilities.

Participants are therefore expected to attend rehearsals regularly throughout the season.

To be eligible to participate in a concert or production, participants must attend at least 75% of the scheduled rehearsals relevant to their role.

 

Participants who do not meet the 75% attendance requirement may be given the opportunity to demonstrate their readiness to perform through an assessment by the Musical Director and/or Choreographer, as appropriate to their role. The relevant artistic lead makes the final decision on eligibility to perform.

Attendance at the final two scheduled rehearsals before a concert or production is mandatory. These rehearsals are essential for the final musical, staging and technical preparation. Participants who do not attend one or both of these rehearsals may not be permitted to participate in the performance.

 

The final decision regarding a participant’s eligibility to perform rests with the Musical Director, in consultation with the Artistic Team and, where appropriate, the Board. This decision may take into account attendance, musical preparation, choreography, staging, artistic readiness and any exceptional circumstances.

The Amsterdam Gay Men’s Chorus understands that work, study, illness, family commitments and other personal circumstances may occasionally prevent participants from attending a rehearsal. Participants are expected to inform their Section Leader as soon as reasonably possible if they are unable to attend a rehearsal.

Rehearsals require commitment, focus and active participation. At the same time, the Amsterdam Gay Men’s Chorus values the strong sense of community that exists within the chorus and encourages participants to build friendships and enjoy the social aspects of rehearsing together.

12. Amendments

​

This Policy may be amended by the Board.

Participants will be informed of any changes before they take effect.
