Stage Director | Job Posting

The AMSGMC mounts two major shows a year, and we need the help of a capable stage director to ensure they are successful. They will work directly with the artistic and production teams within the chorus to help realize the creative vision of each show. This involves:

 

  • Developing staging and lighting plans;

  • Coordinating with theatre technical staff before and during shows and dress rehearsals, and;

  • Overseeing the cohesion and smooth execution of performances

 

We need a team player who can lead a rehearsal and command a stage, with strong ties to the LGBTQ+ community. You should be comfortable with the workings of a theater and have experience in tech from other productions.

Soft Skills

​

  • Leadership. You will be leading a large group and need to keep them focused. You should be able to give clear instructions and handle questions without getting off-track.
     

  • Collaboration. Your role is the bridge between the artistic and production aspects of the show, working with internal chorus teams as well as external technicians.
     

  • Creativity. Your creative work is the gel that holds the show together. We need your artistic efforts to realize the vision of the show and bring the audience a cohesive statement.

Engagement


We are first looking to hire a director for our Winter Show, which will be performed on January 30th. This show is the shorter of the two and has one stage rehearsal prior. We roughly estimate this show to be around 40 hours of work.

After the Winter Show is complete, both you and the AMSGMC leadership will evaluate our partnership. If all parties are satisfied, the contract can be renewed to cover the Summer Show as well (performed on July 3rd 2027). This is a larger scale show with three stage rehearsals beforehand, with an estimated 55-60 hours of work.
